TODAY'S STREET LIVE CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN !

Looks like there is another typhoon coming. Good for surf but bad for street live! Today's weather forecast predicts heavy rain so I will not be doing a street live. Next week I'll be doing 2 weeks worth, so I'll keep everyone updated about place and time.

LIVE AT " SURFER'S " BEACH HOUSE IN ZUSHI

I played at " SURFER'S " in Zushi Beach again! I had a really great time last time, the owner Nalu san asked me if I could play again and I was more than happy to take his offer. Kat also played that night, I'm always amazed at how good she is! We got to do a few songs together too which was so cool! Summer is slowly coming to an end and it will be a whole year until SURFER'S opens up again. I met a lot of cool people and made many new friends this summer, I can't wait until next year!

SUMMER IS NOT OVER YET FOR THE BOYZ OF SUMMER!

Ryo and I headed to Yuigahama to enjoy the last few days of summer. Summer of 2009 has been great, I felt like I was back in Hawaii again!

STREET LIVE AT HARAJUKU STATION! THIS IS STREET!!!

I played a street live with my friends Drive Mone¥ at Harajuku and Yoyogi Park today. I played a street show with DM¥ about 8 years ago so it was really cool getting to play with them again, almost like an anniversary! Playing on the street is so much different than playing in live houses. Many different people stop to listen and your show is very raw, you really have to play from your heart because you don't have the luxury of nice sound systems, lights, smoke and atmosphere. We started at Harajuku Station ( omotesando exit ). While we were setting up there were so many foreigners taking pictures of all the cosplay girls and were also taking pictures of DM¥ since they have cool hair! Right before playing the police showed up and stopped us. We waited a few minutes and DM¥ started their set, a lot of people were watching and taking pictures but then the police came again and told us to leave. We packed up our stuff and moved towards Yoyogi Park where we set up and played. While playing, this time a couple of Rockabilly guys came and told us to leave because we were disrupting their performance and they told us this was their territory. So..... we packed up again and move a little bit farther where we played the rest of our show without and interruptions. This was street!!! I made so many new friends, different types of people, age, race, people that you would never meet at a live house. I was really happy that I got to play my songs for so many different people. I'm planning on playing every Sunday at Harajuku, if not at the station definately at Yoyogi Park by the Yakisoba, Okonomiyaki carts! Sorry for anyone who came to watch me and couldn't find me. See you on the streets!

今日原宿と代々木公園で、Drive Mone¥とStreet Liveやりました！８年前に彼らと一緒にやったことがあって、またこうして同じ場所でStreet Liveやれた事が懐かしくて嬉しかった！！やっぱり、Street Liveは、Live Houseでやるのとは全然違うね。Street Liveだと色々な人たち、年齢や国籍が違っても関係なく聴いてくれる。本当の生のSoundで、いい照明とか無いし、いい音じゃないし、Stageの安心感が無いから、本当に裸のままでやってるって感じ。でもすごい楽しい！！！準備してる時、コスプレを楽しみにしている外人がけっこう集まってた。Drive Mone¥は、fashionがけっこう目立つからみんなに写真撮られてた〜　DM￥が終わって俺の出番！の時に警察が来た。。。よし、代々木公園に移動！してLIVEやりましたーー！そしたら、今度はロカビリーの人に囲まれて。。あ〜〜あ〜。また移動。これがSTREETだ！！ハプニングがあったんだけど、New friendsができたし、色々な人に聴いてもらったから最高の日だった！来週またやるつもりだから、みんな、是非来てください！

STREET LIVE AT HARAJUKU STATION SUNDAY 8.23.09 !

I'll be playing a street live in front of Harajuku Station (Omotesando Exit) this Sunday 8.23.09 all day from 14:00 to 17:00, or until the police come, ahaha! ! If you are free come down and check it out! Stay Hungry, Stay Fresh... :)

SHOW AT ZUSHI 'S SURFERS BEACH HOUSE W/ KAT !

I got to play at Zushi's " Surfer's Beach House " with Kat! " Surfer's " was so cool, it's a grass shack style bar right on the beach with a small stage for live performances, a mountain climbing wall, balancing rope and all types of bodyboards, surfboards and paddle boards available for rent. The owner and staff were so laid back and friendly, I couldn't believe I was in Japan! The show was great, I got to play a set and then Kat and I sang " Time of your life " by Green Day together. Watching Kat and her band play was so cool! I made many new friends and had a great time! I was asked to play again next Friday 8/28 so if everyone is free please come down! I'll be opening for Kat, if you haven't seen her live show yet, you have to! She is soo good!

SHOW AT ZUSHI 'S SURFERS BEACH HOUSE W/ KAT ! Wed.8.19.09

I was just invited to play with Kat at Surfers Beach House in Zushi tomorrow!! It was all of a sudden but am so happy and excited to be able to play with Kat especially at the beach! Kat will be playing at 7pm and I'll be playing before that maybe 6pm or 6:30pm! Come down and check it out if you can! see you soon! 来れたらきてね！

YUIGAHAMA BEACH MEETING WITH RYO AND SHUN !

Went to the beach again this time with Ryo and Shun! Shun is an incredible drummer, got mad skillz! it was cool hanging with him at the beach.. I think he drank a little too much though.. ahaha!

REAL JAPANESE PUNK ROCKERS !!!

When I first came to Japan I met a Japanese Punk Rock band called Drive Mone¥. What I admire so much about this band and the people in it, is their love for music, their passion for their dreams and for how hungry they are ! I knew Sho, the lead vocalist for more than 10 years, he has gone through some ups and downs with music and bands, but he never gave up music. Drive Mone¥ broke up a few years back and I got a call from Sho saying that his old drummer from DM¥, Masa was returning and they would start DM¥ again! I was so excited and happy for him since I knew how much he loved his old band and their punk rock style.

I went and watched their first street show after so many years at Shibuya, lately the police have been really strict on playing on the street especially with a drum set and loud amps, so Sho and DM¥ recorded instrumental tracks at their practice studio and basically played to a Karaoke track on the street!! The drummer Masa played bass just to rock out!!! NOW HOW PUNK IS THAT!!!!

What is Punk? What is Street lifestyle and culture?? Just watch DM¥ play, they are as about punk and street as you can get! PUNK isn't about fashion and how much tattoos you have, as a matter of fact, no one in DM¥ has a tattoo, but their hearts are filled with tattoos! I think PUNK is about defying the odds, going against what everyone tells you is right, rebelling, playing your heart out even if it is through a small amp karaoke style in front of people you don't even know on the sreet!! That's being hungry, that's being punk! It made me ask myself " Have I really put 100% into my music? Have I really tried to promote my music? Have I really put 100% into following my dream? Am I that hungry?" Also if you are following you dream ask yourself the same question. How can you be a musician if you never played on the street? how can you call yourself " PUNK " if you are not willing to go that extra step, it's like saying how can you say you are a surfer but have never been to Hawaii to ride one of the most beautiful waves on the planet? I'll be playing a street live with DM¥ Sunday, 8/23/09 at Harajuku Startion ( Omotesando Exit ) from 14:00 to 17:00, come down and check it out!
